What does your prop mean to you?
Gardening and growing fruit tress is my greatest passion. Seeing the literal fruits of your labor is a truly fulfilling experience.
Owning and riding a road bike is my other love and passion.
“Society grows great when old men plant trees, whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
What is the best thing about STACS?
The best thing about STACS, I feel, is the sense of community. As an ex-student of the school – graduating in 2015, there was never a time when I felt I couldn’t ask questions or have a sit-down with the staff and there was always a sense of belonging. The school grounds that I now maintain as part of my role here at STACS, are simply beautiful (If I can say so myself) and abound with space, plenty of trees and beauty for the students and staff to enjoy. I’m a firm believer that a well-maintained and looked after school lends itself to better learning and memories for the students/staff. Nobody wants to leave the classroom after a day of exams and be met with a wall of concrete. Gardens and sunshine are essential for good mental health, and the school abounds in both.
What is the best gift you have ever been given?
In a sense, my job here at STACS has been a tremendous gift. I am honoured and blessed to have been given this role as groundsman, having the opportunity to serve God by ensuring the school is kept looking neat and clean. And in doing so, represent the core values and care that school provides.
My career journey to arrive at STACS
Before arriving at STACS in 2024 as assistant groundsman, I was working in bush regen/maintenance and prior to that had experience working retail for Bunnings in the nursery section. Plants and trees have always been a focal point and love of mine, so it was only fitting that I would eventually end up doing what I love, which is working with my hands in and around all things natural.
A significant Bible verse to me
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
