The Year 11 and 12 Physics and Biology classes are going on an excursion to Dreamworld and Waterworld Amusement Parks in Coomera, QLD on Thursday 22nd June. The bus will leave St. Andrew’s Christian School at 6 a.m. sharp and return by 8.00 p.m. the same day to school. Parents will be expected to be at school by 8.00 p.m. to collect your child.
The classes will be participating in professional talks before the park opens thus requiring our arrival at Dreamworld no later than 9.15 a.m. with a 3 hour 15 minute travel time from Grafton.
The Physics students will be given a behind-the-scenes amusement ride tour to include design, operations and safety equipment and procedures by a Dreamworld staff member. The students will then complete workbooks which will require the students to inspect the ride, perform calculations to determine accelerations and velocities. Finally the students will be given the opportunity to travel in the ride with their mobile smartphone loaded with an application that collects acceleration data. This data is then compared to their theoretically calculated values. These rides will be located in Dreamworld as well as Waterworld.
The Biology students will be able to ride the amusement rides in both parks when not occupied with Biology topics.
